With all those tempting super-sized portions, it is hard to ask you to practice portion control. Portion is the amount of food you put on your plate. Serving a healthy portion may go a long way to curb your hunger. Here are some practical tips to consider.

Do not limit yourself to three meals a day. It is not only unhealthy to lapse substantial time between meals; it is also tempting you to have a larger portion to fill your stomach.

Have a snack between meals. It will help you to have shorter period between meals, allow food to digest properly and help reduce size of your main meal.

Drink between meals. Water is the best. If you prefer soda, select a low-calorie drink.

Select a small plate and serve your own. This will allow you to serve a more appropriate portion for you rather than someone else serving you. Smaller plate holds a smaller portion.

Be conscious about high calorie food items. Go for vegetables and fruits that contain less calories compared to meat or carbohydrates.

Eat before your meal. Having a low calorie soup or salad before your calorie rich meal will help you to serve a smaller portion.
