September 21, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
As many girls are growing from teens to adults, they have dreams of becoming mothers and raising kids; of building a strong family. Most of those dreams have been crushed for the many females in the United States who are obese. Obesity is directly related to infertility. Many go through painful process just to become fertile and most won’t see results. One of the infertility solutions out there for these women can be weight loss surgery.
One of most common surgery for weight loss is the lap band operation. This operation is fast and simple and patients will begin to notice the rapid weight loss right after surgery. As the presence of fat cells decreases, the hormones that interfere with the release of eggs decrease. Lapband surgery involves the placement of an adjustable band around the upper part of the stomach, creating a small upper pouch that will help the patient get full faster and stay full longer. Compared to other weight loss surgeries, this surgery does not involve stapling or cutting of the stomach.
This surgery is covered by most PPO insurances, but in the case that the patients insurance won’t cover the procedure the cost of lap band is affordable. The surgery can range from $15,000-$18,000 and most facilities offer financing through medical financing companies like Care Credit.

Dealing With Heavy Periods and Other Feminine Health Issues
September 11, 2011 by publisher · Leave a Comment
Though women may experience heavy periods at different times in her life naturally, an abnormally long period with particularly heavy flow, or even if bleeding occurs after or in between periods could mean that the woman has a condition called menorrhagia. This condition can be caused by several different things including a hormonal imbalance, polyps on the wall of the uterus, or even some kinds of tumors.
This increased bleeding during or between heavy periods can be very disruptive to a woman’s lifestyle and lead to an increase in other symptoms that come with heavy menstruation. Fortunately there are several treatments for heavy periods that can help with symptoms and allow affected women to lead a much more normal life.
These treatments include the most common fix which is known as endometrial ablation. During this procedure the surgeon enters the uterus and destroys some of the uterine wall. As it heals, scar tissue will form that will inhibit the growth of polyps and other causes and slow the bleeding during menstruation. There are several different ways to destroy the lining, many which are much less intrusive and painful. Some of these options include freezing the uterine wall and others involve heating it.
These fixes allow women to lead a much easier life. Also ask your doctor if you have been experiencing heavy urine flow or urinary incontinence as this could be a sign of uterine prolapse. This is when the bladder presses into the uterus which can cause discomfort and involuntary urination in women.

But sometimes lifestyle changes aren’t enough. In addition to diet and exercise, your doctor may recommend medication to lower your blood pressure. Which category of medication your doctor prescribes depends on your stage of high blood pressure and whether you also have other medical problems.” ²
The cost of this procedure depends all in the patient. It depends on the patients’ healthcare plan, what lapband doctor and/or hospital they choose, and whether or not it is performed on an outpatient basis. ³ There are other options for lap band coverage, as financing as well. If insurance doesn’t cover the procedure some facilities will be able to provide patients with financing with flexible paying plans. Lap Band – A Weight Loss Phenomenon
June 16, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
The Lap Band is becoming a weight loss phenomenon that is starting to take the nation by storm. Some people are reluctant to get more permanent procedures done like a total bypass of the stomach. These patients will be happy to know that procedures like the lap band are reversible. That and the lap band risks are out-weighed by the health risks of being obese.
The lap band cost also outweighs the cost of medical expenses related to obesity; however, insurance companies are still reluctant to cover the procedure. Lapband financing is available to those who have trouble receiving coverage from their insurance providers, or if they have no coverage at all.

Sleep Apnea Help
April 27, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
A good night sleep is often considered one of the most important things a person needs to succeed each day. But according to the National Institutes of Health, sleep apnea can affect up to 12 million people in the United States each year. This affliction can disrupt not only your sleep, but how you perform throughout the day.
Sleep apnea occurs when a person stops breathing repeatedly throughout the night. The causes can be from the tissues in the body obstructing air movement, or from the brain failing to signal muscles to breathe. This can become a very serious issue for most people, and could possibly result in death.
If you are looking for sleep apnea help, the solution could be found in simple lifestyle changes. Losing weight and trying to quit smoking are the sleep apnea solutions that an individual has the most control over. Excess weight bears down on the pathways that air takes to and from the lungs. This constriction can cause difficulty breathing when lying down.
Smoking damages tissues in the airways and makes it more difficult to breath. Quitting the habit can greatly improve the way in which a person breathes. Nicotine patches and gum can help ease a person off of an addiction to smoking.
Bariatric surgery, like the Lap Band Surgery, could help a person lose weight and curb the affects of sleep apnea. In addition, such surgery can help fight joint pain, diabetes, and high blood pressure. However there are risks, as is the case with any surgery. Lap band risks include malnutrition, the possibility of the band slipping, and erosion of the band into the stomach. To learn more about lap band surgery, visit http://www.lovelapband.com.
The New Weight-Loss Phenomenon
April 26, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
Lapband surgery has been sweeping the nation as a revolutionary new weight-loss method. Patients are finding out that bariatric surgery doesn’t have to be painful, or irreversibly alter your body. The Lap Band is a minimally invasive, reversible installation of a band that wraps around the top of your stomach. This band simulates the sensation of fullness and therefore prevents overeating.
To receive lap band insurance coverage, a person must meet a specific set of requirements. First, a person must be at least 100 pounds overweight or have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 40. The BMI requirement can be lowered to 35 if the patient has a medical condition directly stemming from obesity (such as diabetes). In most cases, a person must also submit a “Letter of Necessity” in which they will outline their weight and weight-loss history. Some patients may also be required to submit to a psychological exam to ensure that the patient fully understands the risks and requirements of a laparoscopic band.

Members of the Concordia College academe, which include students, faculty, staff and other members of the Selma-Dallas County community, were invited by the Rosa J. Young Center for Women and the Man Center to attend their Community Health Fair in conjunction with World AIDS Day. Part of the fair’s activities include free screenings for cholesterol, weight, prostate, blood pressure, glucose, body mass index, HIV/AIDS and STD testing. National Aids Trust Chief Executive Deborah Jack announced during World AIDS Day that it is critical for health providers and professionals to hold health fairs as part of the global bid to increase HIV/AIDS awareness especially to young people.
Jack adds that the health fair represents a very important moment for 2010, marking it in history through the launch of their advocacy network. Jack stresses the importance of helping HIV-positive individuals by way of empowering them through making their advocacy network accessible and highly accommodating. Jack hopes to give HIV/AIDS patients the confidence to speak up about their ordeals and their triumphs in combating the dreaded effects of the disease. Hundreds of students concerned about their health took full advantage of the free screening services made available at the health fair.
Meanwhile, the Center for Demographic Research of Auburn University Montgomery has just released data sheets for 2010 which report on the number of new cases of HIV/AIDS in Alabama. The date shows a negative trend in new cases, thus signifying a positive, albeit small, improvement in terms of prevention. The data is the result of a partnership between the university and AIDS Alabama, an advocacy group that includes members from all over the state.
Getting dentures implants and other procedures
September 15, 2010 by publisher · Leave a Comment
Although more people take care of their teeth than ever before, oral problems are on the rise. This is mainly due to the foods we eat and the habits we maintain (e.g. smoking). However, fixing these problems has also become easier. Getting dentures implants and other procedures done has become more and more commonplace today.
Cosmetic dentistry has come a long way over the years; procedures like laser teeth whitening and porcelain veneers are fantastic solutions for those with stained teeth. In the same way, Implants have given a new lease of life to those struggling with dentures. Dentures are one of life’s most embarrassing prosthetic devices, purely because they have tendency to pop out suddenly. However, Implants do not have this problem. They are permanently fixed in your mouth and last up to several decades. This ultimately justifies the cost which is several times more expensive than the cost of dentures.
If you are interested in getting any of these cosmetic dentistry work done, do a quick search on the internet to find a dentist near you. For example run a search on the term “periodontist los angeles” or “orthodontists los angeles“, replacing los angeles with your city’s name you will find quite a few. But before you go and get a procedure done, talk to your regular dentist first and get his or her opinion on the matter. Your regular dentist knows your dental history and together with his or her medical knowledge, they will be in better position to advice you on the best course of action to be taken.
