Addiction Program for Coexisting Disorders

Often times, people dealing with drug or alcohol abuse have deeper issues that need to be resolved. Most commonly, addicts suffer from coexisting mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder and depression. Unfortunately, most addicts are unaware of these coexisting conditions because they have never been diagnosed. Along with treating someone’s chemical dependence on drugs or alcohol, a comprehensive addiction program should have the staff and resources required to treat coexisting mental health conditions.

A proper drug rehab program should be able to diagnose and treat coexisting disorders as well as multiple addictions. For instance, a person could be diagnosed with a drug and alcohol addiction, while another person may suffer from manic depression and alcoholism. If a person at an alcohol or drug rehab is diagnosed with any coexisting mental health condition, it is imperative they receive treatment for that condition. Untreated mental health issues can interfere with recovery and complete healing.

If you or someone you love is thinking about entering a drug or alcohol rehab center, make sure that the facility is equipped to handle coexisting mental health issues. For more information about a dual diagnosis facility, please visit Cirque Lodge.
